Dementia Support in North Tyneside.

When a loved one receives a dementia diagnosis, it can bring up many questions throughout their diagnosis journey. That’s why EveryDay Dementia Care can be there for you from the start with support and signposting

EveryDay Dementia Care

We know no two people with a dementia diagnosis are the same. That’s why EveryDay Dementia Care offers person-centered support plans for those with dementia. Focused on the customer, our personalised care plans ensure goals and aspirations of the individual are at the focus of our dementia support. When a loved one receives a diagnosis, we recognise that everyday tasks can become more difficult which is where we step in with skilled support to make each step of the journey easier. Our Dementia Care ranges from personal care to support with appointments and medication. Working alongside carers and families, we aim to keep those with a diagnosis living well at home for as long as possible with care whenever you need us.

Caring for a loved one with dementia or other age-related issues can be incredibly rewarding, but we want to make sure carers are looked after too. We recognise the work that goes into supporting a loved one with dementia and offer carers respite through our Wellbeing Centres. Here loved ones can be dropped off to enjoy a day of activities, games, and socialising with other customers and staff. They can take part in stimulating activities and physical exercise classes which help them with mobility, flexibility and keeping moving. The centres have had great feedback from customers and their families.

Mrs T explains “My mam absolutely loves coming to Cedar Grove once a week. The staff and volunteers are all so lovely and my mam is made really welcome. She always enjoys the homely food and recounts what she has eaten when I collect her. There is a lovely atmosphere and always nice music on when I return to pick her up”

Age UK North Tyneside Services

Age UK North Tyneside is an independent charity, focusing on supporting everyone to make the most of later life. Through Age UK North Tyneside, you can get in touch with our Admiral Nurse team. An admiral nurse is a nurse who specialises in dementia and can support through early diagnosis into end-of-life care. Our specialist nurses can offer holistic support to families and those with a diagnosis with signposting to see what support you can receive. Some customers have said:

“I find the Admiral Nurse service in North Tyneside invaluable. When my mum was diagnosed I didn’t have a clue what to do or who to turn to, but the Admiral Nurses have all the information for carers as well as listening to a multitude of issues. I honestly can’t recommend the Admiral Nurse service enough, there’s nothing else like it and they support a great many people.”

“You prevented me from “going under” with your professionalism, caring, kindness and friendship. I did not realise how much I needed Admiral Nurse care until I received it, so, many, many thanks to especially yourself and all the Admiral team for a worthy job well done. Keep up the good work”

They can also refer you to Dementia Activities, a safe, inclusive space where those with dementia can enjoy stimulating activities and establish friendships. There are currently spaces across all Dementia Activities, including Singalong Memories, The Cuppa Club, Meeting Centre, and MCST. Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) is a weekly programme for those with Dementia. Here they can enjoy activities that are proven to help maintain memory and mental functioning. The 10-week cohort is due to start again in October and currently has openings. You can find out more here.
