In 2010 I as awarded the North East’s Young Apprentice of the Year for an apprenticeship I completed in the Health and Social Care Sectors where I gained vast experience working in hospitals, pharmacies, mental health facilities and residential homes. I have always had a love for caring for others and supporting individuals to make the most of their lives.

Following a BTEC National Diploma in Children’s Care Learning and Development, I went on to study a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Social Sciences at Manchester Metropolitan University. My career background has largely involved working with disadvantaged and vulnerable children in education. I’ve worked first hand with children that present social, emotional and mental health difficulties, have ECHP plans and/or are on Child Protection registers. Naturally, this presented many challenges, alongside providing a substantial education to the children ensuring they are safeguarded from harm.

I joined EveryDay Care & Support in 2017 where I worked in one of the Extra Care assisted living schemes. Much of my experience and skills has been transferrable to the Adult Social Care Sector and I have been passionate about helping people make more of later life. In 2019 I began working within our Wellbeing Centre service, then in June of 2022 I was promoted to Wellbeing Centre Manager.

My role involves overseeing the care and provision of our three Wellbeing Centres, their staff, customers and volunteers. Our Wellbeing Centres include Cedar Grove in Wallsend, Rowan Croft in Killingworth and Linskill Park in North Shields. This is our specialist centre which provides care for those living with cognitive impairments.

Our Wellbeing Centres operate all year round and provide a safe environment for adults in North Tyneside aged 50 and over. We facilitate engaging activities that are cognitively stimulating for customers, helping them to make more of later life. Our centres provide a safe haven for customers to establish friendships with others, avoiding social isolation and loneliness. We provide carer relief and support the work of other professionals to better the lives of our customers and essentially enhance their wellbeing.

I absolutely love my new role and wouldn’t want to do anything else. I love seeing first-hand the lives and wellbeing of our customers improving by regular attendance at our centres. I can’t wait to make even more of our wellbeing service.
